Orphan boy gets new home

First Lady gives orphan new home.

WHEN she heard that a 16-year-old Ulundi boy had been living alone for the past two years in a derelict room, KZN First Lady Thembeka Mchunu acted without delay.

The tragic tale had reached her ears just before Christmas, via Cllr Tutu Buthelezi, who in turn had been told the sad situation of young Pho Sikhakhane by the lad’s school principal.

‘When I informed the First Lady of the boy’s plight she promised to help and sprang into action.

‘In no time, she had secured a solid steel structure from Richards Bay benefactors RH Construction, who in turn erected the wonderful new home on site the day before Christmas – a wonderful gift for this young man,’ said Cllr Buthelezi.

The donors also furnished various electrical items and food for the house.

A special hand-over function was held on 24 December, with the First Lady there in person to wish Pho well and to make sure he had adequate support for the future.

She encouraged Pho to make the most of this gift and to ‘pay back’ by dedicating himself to studying hard and getting the good education that would secure his future.
