Two more Alkantstrand stabbing cases opened

More cases linked to the 'Pens Down' matric murder case [surfaced this week.

INVESTIGATIONS into the Alkantstrand matrics’ stabbing case intensified this week when two more cases of attempted murder were opened at the Richards Bay police station.

The young victims were part of a group of pupils celebrating the end of exams at Alkantstrand two weekends ago.

Although not ruling out the possibility, the police have not yet linked the incidents with the fatal stabbing of Thobani Mkhize, Philani Gumede, and Bongumusa Mathenjwa.

Another victim, 13-year-old pupil Sizwe Mtshali, was reportedly still fighting for his life in hospital.

According to police spokesperson Capt Debbie Ferreira, the police are obtaining witness statements.

On Monday, a 22-year-old Siphamandla Mthethwa from Mtunzini appeared at the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court in connection with the fatal stabbings.

The case was postponed to 19 December for a bail application.
