Holiday establishments ready for influx

Richards Bay expecting a bumper December season.

DESPITE the current electricity crisis, many Zululand tourist establishments say they are geared to cope with the large influx of holiday visitors.

According to Protea Hotel The Richards, load shedding will have no impact on any of their guests this festive season.

‘Our well-equipped generator is able to power the entire property. We are committed to making our visitors’ stay pleasant,’ said Marketing Plan Coordinator Drika Grundlingh.

‘Comparing our bookings to last year this time, there’s been a definite peak in our day visits,’ Blue Marlin Guest House owner Iris Valentine said Eskom’s outages will have no effect on her business.

‘Our guest house has an automatic 87KVA generator, so our guests will not be inconvenienced, even during major functions such as weddings.’

Richards Bay Caravan Park’s General Manager Willie Olwagen said they are expecting the ‘normal’ festive season crowd.

‘We will be hosting around 1 200 people compared to the average of 500 people during the year. This year is no different for us. Many of our visitors enjoy the peace and tranquillity, and that’s the reason behind their return.

‘We were fully booked by July since many of our guests book a year in advance.’
