Empangeni’s own Florence Nightingale

Dr Lindiwe is a practising General Practitioner in Empangeni and hails from Botswana.

DPASSIONATE about healing people and excited by the thrill of surgery, Setswana beauty Dr Lindiwe Mbambo-Williams has been a practising as General Practitioner at Ngwelezana Hospital since the beginning of the year.

Responsible for admitting patients, conducting procedures, attending to clinic patients and the regular day-to-day follow-ups, Lindiwe works long hours in a challenging field, but would not trade her profession for anything.

‘I have loved medicine from childhood. We had a family doctor who inspired me. We used to fellowship at the same church and I would always visit him and be so intrigued by his medical works,’ she said.

Compassionate and caring by nature, Lindiwe prides herself on nursing patients back to health.

‘I have to admit, I get attached to some patients and when I get home I start wondering how they are coping. I even pray for some. You can’t help but fight for your patients,’ she said.

Up close and personal

Born and raised in Botswana, after matric she registered at the University of Botswana and completed her Bachelor of Science degree. Thereafter, she enrolled at Medical School at the then University of Natal in 2003 and graduated with a Bachelor degree in medicine and surgery.

She then went on to practice at three different hospitals in Botswana over a five year period before making her way to Empangeni.

Having met the love of her life while studying, Lindiwe wed after graduation and is a mother of two.

‘My kids are my driving force. I get up every morning and look at their precious faces and it keeps me going,’ she said.

Given her busy work schedule, to unwind and relax she enjoys fishing with her husband or undertake a shopping spree at the mall.

A tasty meal of prawns or a serving of homemade roast chicken is her all time favourite, followed by one of her best loved books by Stormie Omartian ‘The Power of a Praying Woman’.

A lover of travel, Lindiwe has enjoyed trips to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and plans to jet off to Mozambique next.

‘Swakopmund in Namibia is the most incredible place! I could go there all the time,’ she said.
