Shop assistant killed in robbery

Three eSikhaleni shooters still at large.

A MANHUNT is underway for three men who shot and killed an Ethiopian supermarket assistant at uMkhobosa Reserve on Saturday morning.

According to the police, at 3am at KwaNene shop two employees were asleep inside when they heard a noise on the roof.

Terrified by what was happening, they immediately phoned the shop owner to come for assistance.

A female employee told the police they were confronted by three armed men who demanded money, cell phones and goods.

‘They assaulted the colleague who was with me. Before the shop owner arrived they messed up the items and took what they wanted. When the owner arrived with another co-worker, the perpetrators opened fire at them, hitting th e co-worker’ she said.

Alemayehu Lageso Himbabe (30) was rushed to the Thokozani Clinic after he sustained a head injury, but was declared dead on arrival. The other colleague was taken to hospital for medical attention.

eSikhaleni SAPS spokesperson Lt Thembinkosi Mkhumane said no arrests have been made and the investigation is underway.
