Great start for uThungulu

RH Construction uThungulu beat Pinetown by three wickets in a pre-season friendly.

THE RH Construction uThungulu cricket side got their season off to a winning start by beating Pinetown by three wickets in a pre-season friendly on Sunday at Addison Park.

Regarded as a batting pitch, Addison Park failed to live up to it’s name on this occasion.

The local side put in a superb fielding performance, pin-point bowling with excellent catches being taken.

Pinetown won the toss and chose to head off to the crease with willow in hand.

uThungulu bowled the visitors out for 139 in the 45th over, thanks to success from Ryan Smith 2/14, Trevor Kietzmann 1/17 and Neill Jordan 1/18.

Needing just 2.78 runs an over was never going to work up a sweat from the local batsmen.

The home side reached 143/7 in the 35th over to claim a well deserved victory and take positive momentum into their first league match this weekend.

Darryl Hattingh 32, Lazar Holmes 24, Ruan van Rensburg 25 not out and Otto Rode 17 all contributed with bat in hand.

uThungulu will take on Chatsworth Sporting at Addison Park on Sunday in their first Premier League 50 over game of the new season, getting underway at 9am.
