Huge numbers at popular event

Over 550 mountain bikers came out for the 2014 Grantleigh Curro MTB Challenge.

A GRAND total of 574 off-road, mountain biking enthusiasts dropped a gear and disappeared at the 2014 Grantleigh Curro MTB Challenge on Sunday at Grantleigh School.

Competitors raced it out over a 10km, 25km or 50km distance along the farms and surrounding land around and near the school property.

Despite not having as many participants as last year (680), the vibe and atmosphere was amazing.

The 10km race came down to a sprint finish, which saw Daniel Wessels claim the honours in a time of 25.28 minutes.

Alexander Ferret rode to a comfortable victory in the 25km event, beating second placed Jett Bradshaw by almost one minute.

But Joshua Nelson was in a class of his own in the 50km event, taking podium position by three minutes.
