Aquadene Library building in motion

Work at the Aquadene Community Library site commenced at the end of July.

WORK on the Aquadene Community Library site is in full swing with the state-of-the-art facility scheduled for completion in June 2015.

This was the update from municipal officials Control Librarian, Leonie Wood and Manager: Arts and Culture, Nobuhle Mashaba, who visited the site in Via Ammannia Street last Monday to report on the progress.

The community has for several years been lobbying for an educational and resource facility and is excited to see the ground prepared for the development in the initial stage. Work started at the end of July.

The building is ideally located opposite the community’s primary and secondary schools and is a three-year project which receives support and funding from Province.

The facility, which will be staffed by five, will be resourced with books, computers with internet access as well as provide a study area and a hall.

The community has welcomed the project as local children had to use the neighbouring Brackenham Library or city library in the Richards Bay CBD.

Job creation

According to Ward 26 councillor, Ahmed Dawood, the developers have been urged to employ a work force from the local community and surrounding areas.

‘We have appealed to the contractor to hire people from the vicinity and ward committee member, Thoko Mfeka, has been appointed by the contractor as a community liaison to give assistance, report to the community on the project and compile a list of unemployed people.

‘While we cannot tell the developer who to employ, we would like our unemployment situation to be addressed through this project.

‘More than100 people have given their details and job descriptions and the process has been an open and transparent one,’ he said.
