Feisty female fights car thieves

20-year-old Starr-Layne Moolman was not letting thieves take her car.

A YOUNG woman put up a big fight when she thwarted robbers’ attempts to steal her van outside a Richards Bay business last Thursday evening.

Starr-Layne Moolman (20) and her friend Patrisha Chetty (19) had parked outside an internet cafe in Lira Link road and returned after a two-hour session of surfing the net to find two men inside her vehicle at about 5pm.

Shocked by what she saw, Starr-Layne attacked one of the men, beating him. However, both men managed to flee from the vehicle.

‘I pursued them and did not give up. I drove across the street to the Virgin Active gym where community members assisted in  apprehending one of the men.

‘A few months ago someone tried to steal my vehicle from my Richards Bay home and I had to have the damages repaired.

‘I only recently got it back and I was not going to just hand it over to criminals.

‘I am not certain how they managed to open the vehicle but at least they were caught in the act before they made a getaway,’ she said.

The suspect was taken into custody by Richards Bay police.

  1. Maybe it was traffic cops writing her a fine, cause she’s definitely braking the law by parking in a no parking area. Seems to be allocated for motorcycles…

  2. You could’ve been seriously injured BUT You did a very brave thing! Well done..

  3. Yes thank god they were caught! I remember running after that guy like a crazy woman :) glad that’s all over what a shocking day that was for us

  4. David if you look carefully you will see she is parked in front of the gym obviously that is where the thief was apprehended… the internet cafe is across the road.
