Hijackers nabbed after accident

Man held at gunpoint after picking up 3 hitchhikers.

THREE suspects who hijacked a vehicle in Meerensee on Friday night, and then crashed it on the John Ross Highway, were speedily apprehended by police after committing the crime.

According to Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira, the motorist had given the men a lift from the Richards Bay CBD to the Bay Pool area in Meerensee where they threatened him with a firearm and knife.

The complainant jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards the beach for safety.

The trio fled the scene and were later involved in an accident, they were arrested and charged with hijacking and possession of stolen vehicle.
