Ashley’s father freed from jail

According to Empangeni police, Neels is a wanted criminal by Interpol for the last five years.

THE father of  the ‘missing’ eNseleni child, Ashley de Jager (5) – Neels has just been released from the Empangeni SAPS holding cells.

Just 48 hours after his shock apprehension, he was reportedly freed following an agreement with the Mozambican and South African authorities.

According to his attorney, Yolanda Gielink of Gielink Attorneys he has not been formally charged and did not make a first court appearance.

‘He made a statement which has been filed in the docket before he was released. If the Mozambican police wants to pursue with criminal charges against him in Mozambique, then they must apply for extradition. This is a very lengthy process.

‘Neels just wants to try and get his daughter back as she is a South African citizen,’ said Gielink.

The Zululand Observer first reported the case of the missing girl on Friday, who had disappeared after school last Wednesday.

However, she has since been reported safe and well with her mother in Mozambique.

According to Empangeni police, Neels is a wanted criminal by Interpol for the last five years.

It is unclear if the father will lay a charge of kidnapping against the mother or whether he will be extradited to Mozambique to face charges in that country.
