Animal welfare in dire need of food

Food supply at the SPCA is extremely low in stock with dog and puppy pellets nearly running out.

THE community is urged to support an emergency food drive for the neglected, abused and surrendered animals currently boarding at the Richards Bay SPCA.

Food supply at the SPCA is extremely low in stock with dog and puppy pellets nearly running out.

According to Richards Bay SPCA deputy chairperson, Hazel Butcher, the non-profit organisation’s financial situation is currently too lean to provide their animals with sufficient sustenance.

‘We appeal to the public and companies to please assist with pellets,’ said Hazel.

‘The SPCA is ever reliant on the public for assistance to help care for animals in need.’

Food can be dropped off at the Richards Bay SPCA or Zululand Observer Richards Bay offices.

Open Day

People can also show their support and/or drop off food at the SPCA Richards Bay Open Day this Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

The welfare sells a wide range of items including homeware, books, plants, appliances, toys, DVDs, clothes and linen for bargain prices.

Coffee and tea with an assortment of cakes will be sold on the patio and for hungrier customers, a braai will provide hotdogs, boerewors rolls or bacon and egg rolls.

The funds raised from the market day contribute significantly to the day-to-day running of the non-profit organisation.
