Teen clubbed to death

Mother's R1 000 debt leads to killing.

A 29-year-old man arrested in connection with the death of Sbonelo Nzuza (13) of the Makhalimba area, Gingindlovu, appeared in the Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Nzuza went missing on Sunday, 27 April and his mother became worried when he did not return home.

She reported him missing to the Gingindlovu police at the weekend.

Investigations revealed that the boy was last seen at the residence of the suspect, living in the Mvutshini area.

It is believed the boy’s mother owed money to the accused and that he may have kept the child captive.

The suspect was arrested and the boy’s bicycle was recovered at the suspect’s house.

On Monday the accused confessed to murdering the boy and pointed out a shallow grave about a 1km from his homestead where he had buried the child.

He told the investigators that he had killed the boy by hitting him on the head with a bolted stick because his mother owned him a R1 000.
