Crime awareness campaign in motion

DramAidE focuses on the use of drama and other interactive educational methodologies for HIV/AIDS, life-skills and sex education.

COMMUNITY Policing Forum (CPF) members have been hard at work trying to collate resources and information to initiate their school awareness crime campaign.

CPF committee member Seluleko Mchunu is due to meet with officials of the University of Zululand Drama AIDS Education (DramAidE) sector in hopes of joining hands against crime.

DramAidE focuses on the use of drama and other interactive educational methodologies for HIV/AIDS, life-skills and sex education.

Since its inception, DramAidE has worked in more than 850 KZN schools, 19 tertiary institutions nationally, as well as in communities both urban and rural.

‘The children in our community also need to be aware and alert, and this is a fun, interactive and vibrant manner in which to do so,’ said Mchunu.

Streets

CPF members have taken proactive steps to ensure their safety.

According to CPF Chairperson, Zilindile Masango, four street committees have been formed.

‘Eland Crescent, Dove Crescent, Armstrong Avenue and Eagle Crescent have all formulated street committees in their respective areas.

This is a great achievement and should be motivation to everyone else.

There is safety in numbers,’ said Masango.

Easter

Empangeni SAPS Captain Dludla said those who were travelling away over the long weekend should ensure security precautions are taken.

‘Check that all your doors are locked properly and tell your neighbour that you are away.

Ask a friend to personally check on your home; do not leave without informing someone.

‘Also, activate your alarm systems and ask your neighbours to alert the police immediately of any suspicious activity within the area,’ Dludla said.
