Bevis gets World Cup call-up

Hannah Bevis will be jetting off the New Zealand for the U19 Indoor Cricket World Cup Tournament in October

FIT as a fiddle, fast and exceptional hand-eye co-ordination is the secret to Hannah Amy Bevis’ success.

The 17-year-old Zululand cricketing star will be jetting off to New Zealand in October to represent South Africa at the U19 World Cup Indoor Cricket Tournament.

Bevis, who lives in Empangeni, is a pupil at Felixton College, where she also excels in hockey, soccer and athletics – and on the academic side.

This Bay-born lass unfortunately lost her father Daryll in 2008, but says he was her role model.

‘He introduced me to the sport when I was young. We played cricket in the backyard for hours every day,’ says Bevis.

‘I took my backyard skills to school and made the Northern Coastal, KZN and SA sides.’

Her résumé is impressive – KZN U13 outdoor cricket in 2010; KZN U16 and U19 outdoor cricket in 2011; KZN U19 outdoor cricket in 2012; SA U16 indoor cricket in 2012; KZN U19 and open ladies indoor cricket last year; KZN U15 boys and KZN North indoor cricket in 2013; Best Cricketer and Sportsman of the Year 2013 at Felixton College; SA U19 indoor cricket this year.

When not busy following her fitness programmes or training on the pitch, she can be found relaxing on her bed listening to the latest ‘jams’.

Her friends and family motivate her to live up to her full potential.

She never neglects her academic work despite her busy sport schedules. She aims to obtain As for all her subjects.

She also wants to represent KZN in hockey and make the SA senior team in indoor cricket.

The always competitive Bevis says the one thing that she had learnt over the years was that one must never think one deserves something, as nothing will be handed to you.
