WATCH: Transport MEC commits to road safety over festive season

Government and religious leaders held a wreath-laying ceremony at N2 Mandeni site of fatal accidents

Government leaders, both provincial and local, as well as various religious leaders presided over a wreath-laying ceremony on the N2 near Mandeni today (Thursday).

The ceremony was led by Transport MEC Siboniso Duma in remembrance of the nine people who lost their lives in separate accidents on that stretch of the national highway over the past week.

The victims’ families, neighbours and friends also gathered, as did leadership of Ilembe and Mandeni municipalities.

Duma thanked the religious leaders and all congregations for supporting the families during this difficult period.

“We appreciate their enduring support because they shoulder the burden of burying victims of road accidents throughout the year.

“Importantly, we commit to integrating all religious leaders into all road safety campaigns as we approach the festive season,” said Duma.

He said the department wants every church, synagogue, mosque and all centres of worship to have road safety ambassadors.
