Scrap metal collectors believed to be responsible for massive Friday water leak in Empangeni
Scrap metal collectors were reportedly the cause of a massive water leak along Empangeni’s Main Road on Friday morning.
Motorists witnessed a fountain of water shooting up to at least five metres in the air, which was reported to the City of uMhlathuze at about 7am.

Ward 23 Councillor Andre de Lange said it took the municipal plumbing team at least four hours to fix it.“
A valve was tripped off, allegedly by the people selling scrap [metal].
This is the line that supplies the whole town but, fortunately, there were no reports of water shortages from either households or businesses,” said De Lange.
