New Ezemvelo board applauded

New Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife board has been commended for bringing stability

The new Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife board has been applauded for bringing stability to the entity.

Speaking at a World Rhino Day commemoration held at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) on Sunday, Ezemvelo CEO Sihle Mkhize said the new board was appointed at a time of ‘serious governance and management instability’ within the entity.

The new board, Mkhize said, had approved policies; ensured there are sound governance structures; does not interfere with day-to-day operations; and has this year appointed a permanent CEO in himself, all of which evidenced its proper functioning.

Mkhize further said that the new board has also ensured the positions of senior executives at Ezemvelo are filled, which has also contributed towards stabilising the institution.

The CEO said the new board has also improved stakeholder relations, ‘not to say they are no challenges’.

“Those are some of the key turn-around strategies we have made,” applauded Mkhize.

Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Narend Singh said the new board’s work was commendable.
