WATCH: Strong winds batter Zululand
Strong wind, heavy rain and disruptive snow forecast for KZN as fierce winds batter Richards Bay, Mtunzini
As bad weather persists across KwaZulu-Natal, with temperatures expected to further drop over the weekend, there was strong winds that battered the Zululand coast on Thursday evening.
As reported by ReevalSA on X, Mtunzini saw more wind than rain yesterday evening, with wind speeds of 64km/h, gusting up to 85km/h.
Amid a week of severe weather warnings, the SA Weather Service (SAWS) has this (Friday) morning issued a yellow level 2 warning for strong winds and waves that may lead to difficulty in navigation at sea, as well as localised disruption to harbours or ports between Port Edward and Kosi Bay.
Meanwhile, in Richards Bay on Thursday, strong winds brought heavy seas to Alkantstrand and Palm Beach, with video footage shared on social media showing the destruction and water pouring into the car park at Palm Beach.

“The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly, becoming moderate in the south from the morning (Friday),” said the SAWS.
While no major damage has been reported as yet, residents are being urged to take necessary precautions as inclement weather is set to persist until Saturday evening, with a level 6 warning for disruptive snow in KZN’s south and western regions.
Overnight last night, Kokstad experienced a light dusting of snow.
“Disruptive snow that will result in the cut-off of municipal services and movements of community members is expected over the north-eastern high grounds of the Eastern Cape, extreme south-western KZN, as well as the Lesotho-Free State corner and its adjacent region,” said the SAWS.
