Illegal guns seized in farm raids

Tip-offs lead police to illegal guns as efforts to curb criminal activity continue

Community tip-offs continue to help police get illegal guns off the streets and curb crime activities in various communities within the region.

Last Thursday, two unlicensed homemade shotguns and ammunition were recovered at Zietover Farm in Melmoth, leading to two arrests.

According to the police, the Melmoth Task Team received information from a safety agency, Mfezi Security, about two men with illegal guns on the farm.

On their arrival at the farm, police recovered a homemade shotgun with one round of live ammunition from one suspect, while the second suspect was found with a shotgun and five rounds of ammunition.

Both suspects appeared at the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Dedicated police teams recovered two more illegal guns at Simamisa Farm in Gingindlovu.

Police raided the premises after receiving information about a couple in possession of unlicensed firearms.

During their mission, the police seized a 9mm pistol without a serial number and an empty magazine.

The couple was arrested and charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

They appeared at Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
