Vagrant found dead in alley

Richards Bay man found dead behind business building.

A DISABLED man was found dead at the back of a business building in Richards Bay on Tuesday morning.

Bradley Urquhart, an amputee, was declared dead by paramedics after cleaning staff found his body at 6.30am in Lira Link Street.

The 42 -year-old was often seen at the robot intersection of East Central and Tassel Berry and around the Richards Bay CBD.

The cleaners from Partridge Place found him in an upright position behind the property and at first thought he was asleep.

It is believed he had returned from Durban the day before, where he was receiving treatment for a substance abuse problem at a rehabilitation centre.

The cause of death has not yet been established and police have opened an inquest docket.

Urquhart’s father, Brett, on Wednesday said he was on route to Richards Bay from Johannesburg for the burial arrangements.

He said Bradley did not have any family locally, but the community had supported him and helped care for him after he was involved in a car accident in 2010 in which he lost his leg.

Before the accident, he was subcontracted at a local supermarket, and assisted with welding work and general maintenance.

  1. So sad that “dad” is rushing to the Bay to help bury his son but couldn’t rush to the Bay to help his son while he was still alive. NOT judging…just saying :-(
