Coal export line back in full operation after Transnet train collision

Both lines at Elubana area are now fully operational

COAL exports have resumed following a train collision and subsequent derailment near KwaMbonambi last week.

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) revealed on Sunday that both lines that had been affected by the incident have returned to full operation.

Line 2 was repaired and declared safe for the passage of trains on Thursday while Line 1 was fully restored on Saturday.

“Recovery crews have been working around the clock to restore operations on the line,” TFR stated.

“We wish to express our gratitude to the teams for their dedication and hard work in restoring operations on line 2 of the export coal line, following the collision of two trains at Elubana in KwaZulu-Natal. Despite the persistent rain, their efforts have enabled the resumption of train passage.”
