Home Affairs extends operating hours

ID services will also be available at all Home Affairs offices during the voter registration weekend

Ahead of voter registration next weekend, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) offices are extending operating hours to allow smart ID and passport collections.

This as more than 500 000 smart ID cards are still to be collected at Home Affairs offices across the country.

The offices will be open on Saturday, 11 November from 8am to 1pm.

Thereafter, the IEC will open voting stations on 18 and 19 November for voter registration weekend.

“ID services will also be available at all Home Affairs offices during the voter registration weekend,” said DHA.

“In this regard, operating hours at Home Affairs offices will be aligned with those of the IEC to assist voters who need to collect IDs they have applied for, or to apply for temporary identification certificates.

“With these documents, eligible voters will be able to register for the 2024 national and provincial elections. Temporary identification certificates are issued on the spot.

The IEC plans to open nearly 23 296 voting stations next weekend to not only register new voters but also to facilitate the verification of the roll.

“We urge you to actively participate in the registration weekends and exercise your responsibility as engaged citizens who choose their own representatives,” said chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo.
