City of uMhlathuze deputy mayor responds to ‘Hole Truth’ pothole campaign

RECOGNISING the Zululand Observer for mobilising the community to assist in identifying potholes in need of attention, City of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Christo Botha in response to the ‘Hole Truth’ call-to-action campaign.

Recently-published potholes included those on Empangeni’s Fern Street, Nerina Road, Kerk Street, Higgs Road and Baines Road, as well as Bayvue Boulevard in Richards Bay.

“The ZO’s effort in seeking to mobilise the help of the community in identifying potholes is surely recognised and appreciated,” said Botha.

“We can only make our environment a better place if there is collaboration between the community and the municipal administration.

“We would like to thank the community in advance for assisting the municipality in locating the potholes.”
However, he urged the community to be mindful of the fact that the administration inherited a ‘huge deficit’ in terms of infrastructure maintenance.

The municipality said it would attend to all potholes as soon as practically possible.

On Friday afternoon, Botha confirmed that potholes in Union, Smith, Maxwell, Cunningham and Grysbok streets were all being repaired, cleaned and patched, while road markings were being done in Rex Henderson and Durnford streets.
