Deliberate sabotage’ cited in eShowe water crisis

The district has since opened two cases in uMlalazi and Mandeni police station.

King Cetshwayo District Mayor Thami Ntuli has expressed concern over what has been labelled ‘a deliberate contamination’ of the dams supplying water to eShowe residents.

The mayor said chemical water at the eHlazi and Ruthledge dams was contaminated – forcing the municipality to suspend operations at the eShowe water purification plant.

This was followed by the reported destruction of a reservoir.

“The ramifications of this heartless sabotage are profound, with the district now dispatching all available water tankers to provide clean water to the 15 eShowe and kwaHlokohloko wards and communities that have been impacted,” he said.

The district has since opened two cases in uMlalazi and Mandeni police station.

“Water is an essential and precious resource, and its contamination for human consumption is nothing short of unconscionable.

“The disruptions caused by these incidents ripple through every facet of our society, affecting schools, hospitals, clinics, households, and businesses.

“Our communities are facing hardships that should never have occurred, and the King Cetshwayo District Municipality stands united in its resolve to address this crisis,” said Ntuli.
