Melmoth police sting nets 13 suspects

Police infiltrated known crime hotspots in and around Melmoth in search of known suspects

In an effort to clamp down on lawlessness within King Cetshwayo District, police infiltrated known crime hotspots in and around Melmoth on Saturday night, searching for wanted suspects, illegal firearms, dangerous weapons, drugs, and illegal liquor outlets.

Stakeholders also conducted a roadblock on the R34 where 13 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of unlicenced firearms to assault GBH.

Involved were various police units from Nkandla, KwaMbonambi, Richards Bay, and Esikhaleni, as well as the District Task Team and external stakeholders; Ulundi RTI, Eshowe RTI, Mthonjaneni Municipal Traffic officials, Immigrations, and Mfezi Security.

King Cetshwayo Cluster spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase said:

“All the suspects are expected to appear at the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court soon.”

District Police Commissioner Major General Sipho Ngubane was pleased with the outcome of the operation and she applauded the efforts of all stakeholders.

He said these high-density operations will continue until ‘all streets are swept clean‘.
