Each ward had prior to the event identified and submitted 20 beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, Khumalo urged men to protect women and children, especially senior citizens.
“Those who still see women, particularly elderly women and children as their sex targets are not man enough,” said Khumalo.
“In fact, they are dogs, they do not deserve to live in our society.
“Rape is a despicable act and it is an abomination it is unacceptable.
“Elderly people and children are defenceless; we need to protect them all the time.
“We need to protect our gogos from these animals,” he said.
The senior citizens were delighted with their gifts.
One beneficiary, Sindisiwe MaMbokazi Sishwili (80) ran out of words of appreciation.
“If I must be honest, I was not expecting this.
“The truth is that it is difficult to buy blankets because I survive through my old age grant and I have a family to look after,” she said.
“This winter is very cold and this blanket will help keep me warm at night.
“I am not going to share it with my grandchildren,” she concluded.
