KZN taxi fares rising

Taxi commuters have to dig even deeper into their pockets as Santaco (SA National Taxi Council) in KZN confirms the increase of fares from Saturday, 1 July.

After a national conference resolution held in the North West last year, Santaco KZN spokesperson Mduduzi Makhunga said they have pleaded with various associations to consider the current economic circumstances when making taxi fare adjustments.

Makhunga said, no matter how many times petrol increases, the industry has only every July to carry out fare adjustments.

“You may find that in the same association, one route will increase their fare while others will not. This is because we understand the country’s economic status,” said Makhunga.
