11 arrested during Youth Day police operations
Items recovered include 9mm pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition
A high-density SAPS operation held on Friday in KwaMsane near Mtubatuba led to the arrest of several suspects.
“The operation focused on the recovery of drugs, illegal firearms, dangerous weapons, contravention of the Immigration Act, suspect raiding and compliance inspections of liquor outlets,” said police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize.
“Eleven suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from assault GBH, possession of dangerous weapon, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, obstructing police officer in execution of his duties, malicious damage to property with violation of protection order, dealing in liquor without a licence, and drink driving.
“Items recovered include 9mm pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition, Okapi knives and liquor.”
SAPS uMkhanyakude district commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi applauded the police for the arrests and further stated that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
The suspects were expected to appear in KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).
