Woman accused of killing newborn baby under police guard in hospital
She was arrested after the body of her newborn was found under her bed
An Mbazwana woman who was last week arrested on murder charges failed to appear in court on Monday as she is under police guard in hospital.
The woman (33), from the KwaNhlamvu area, was arrested after the body of her newborn was found under her bed.

She was hospitalised owing to the condition in which she was found at the time of her arrest.
Police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize said her court date is not known at this stage.
“The doctor said she could be discharged anytime; we will know the date of her court appearance then,” said Mkhize.

“The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.”
SAPS uMkhanyakude district commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi commended the community for tipping off the police about the alleged murder, and for the police’s swift response.
