Hlabisa traffic officer gunned down in brazen daylight attack

Danisa was the traffic superintendent working at Big 5 Hlabisa Municipality

A traffic superintenent was fatally shot shortly after dropping off his child at a driving school in Hlabisa on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, Vincent Danisa, was reportedly approached by an unknown suspect who shot him multiple times while he was seated in his Toyota Corolla.

Danisa was the traffic superintendent working at Big 5 Hlabisa Municipality.

A police source claimed that after dropping off his child, Danisa came across another driving school instructor driving a truck.

“They both stopped and started talking while inside their vehicles, and an unknown suspect came up and walked in front of the truck.

“He drew a pistol and shot Danisa several times. He was declared dead at the scene,” the source said.

Big 5 Hlabisa Mayor Comfort Khumalo said their staff members were traumatised by the incident.

“Our employees are fearing for their lives. Nobody knows who is next. Last year, we experienced the same thing with one of our other traffic officers,” said Khumalo.

“Danisa had a bright future, he was still young. We convey our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

Khumalo advised anyone with information about the attack to contact the police.

Police spokesperson Captain Sibusiso Mkhize said a murder case was registered at Hlabisa police station for investigation, but no arrest has been made.

“It is alleged that, after the shooting, the gunman fled the scene on foot and was picked up by a silver-grey Polo which is believed to be his getaway car.

“Three 9mm pistol cartridges were found on the scene. Nothing was taken from the deceased,” he said.
