Warning as heavy downpours persist in northern KZN

Thunderstorms are expected over northern parts of KZN this afternoon until the evening (Monday)

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of expected thunderstorms over northern parts of KZN this afternoon until the evening (Monday).

Mtubatuba, Jozini, Big Five Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Ulundi, Nongoma, Umhlabuyalingana and Pongola are among the areas that might be affected.

Severe lightning and strong damaging winds are also anticipated with the possibility of flooding in some areas as heavy rains continue.

“Some of these storms may become severe and some models indicate rainfall accumulation of more than 30mm within three hours over northern KZN, which may result in localised flooding,” SAWS said.

Motorists and residents are urged to take caution and avoid traveling on bridges as well as roads in low lying areas as these may be susceptible to flooding and there may be sinkholes.
