R3.6m water project handed over to uMfolozi communities

uMfolozi water crisis resolved

KING Cetshwayo District Municipality is working hard to resolve water crises around the region. Earlier this month, District Mayor Thami Ntuli officially handed over a completed water project to the Cinci and Baqoqe residents in Ward 11 under uMfolozi Municipality.

Work on the R3.6-million water project began in January and was finished in June. It caters for more than 170 families. The completion and handover of this water project mean the district municipality will now stop supplying residents through tankers.

On behalf of the residents, Mtomuhle Ndlela said they are incredibly grateful for the project.

“Before, we would get water from the tankers. In some cases, we would wait for days for the water tanker to arrive.

Since the completion of this project, we have noted a great and positive change, as we now go to our nearest communal taps to get water anytime, even at night,” said Ndlela.

Speaking at the handover, Ntuli said people want leadership that is serious about changing the lives of the people.

“It is my dream to ensure this doesn’t end here. Regardless of political affiliation, people need development. Water is a basic human right,” he said.

Ntuli urged residents to take ownership of their infrastructure and protect it from being vandalised. uMfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu congratulated the residents of Cinci and Baqoqe, saying they have been over 10 years without running water after the infrastructure was neglected by the previous administration
