7 weeks to gather donations for orphans’ Christmas party

FOR the past 21 years, Izulu Orphan Projects (IOP) has cared for Zululand’s most vulnerable children, and they are calling for community support to make this Christmas a special one.

Based in a rural area of Ncekwane in uMlalazi Municipality, the centre is home to 124 orphaned children.

The NPO has only enough to care for the children’s daily needs, but with seven weeks to go until their annual party (15/16 December), they are appealing to generous Zululanders to contribute where they can.

“There is no money for all the Christmas goodies, we can only cater for the usual food we buy each month. However, we are so delighted that it is only seven weeks to go to our annual Christmas party,” said IOP centre manager Mpume Shange.

“This is the time to ensure we bring Jesus and the celebration of Christmas to our orphans and their families.

For most of our children, the IOP centre is the only place where they get the joy of Christmas and some spoils.

To make all this possible, more helping hands are needed.”

– 250 hygiene hampers (bath towel, bath soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body lotion, shoe polish, shoe brush and biscuits)
– 300 stationery packs (2-quire books, pen, pencil, eraser, color pencils and sharpener)
– 30 Casio scientific calculators
– 3 hired buses (R7 500)
– Two tanks for fuel (R4 000)

– Face paints
