Two suspects are still at large

POLICE are still on the hunt for two business robbery suspects who evaded arrest in the Gingindlovu area last Wednesday.

The report indicates that Gingindlovu SAPS and the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) reacted to a tip-off about a silver Toyota Tazz with five occupants who were allegedly involved in a business robbery in Melmoth.

King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase said the information received was that said vehicle was travelling along the R66 towards Gingindlovu.

“The vehicle was spotted and stopped on the R102. Occupants were ordered to get out of the car but two of them ran away, and the other three were arrested,” said Shangase.

“Police searched the vehicle and two unlicensed 9mm pistols were found with erased serial numbers; assorted cigarettes; cash coins; bath soaps, and cellphones taken from the victims during the business robbery.

“The trio was charged with two counts of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Two victims arrived at the station and identified suspects and the seized exhibits.

“The trio appeared at Eshowe Magistrate’s Court for illegal possession of firearms. They were remanded in police custody pending investigations.

“They also face a charge of business robbery for which they appeared in Melmoth Magistrate’s Court last Friday.

“They were remanded in police custody pending investigations and are expected to reappear at the same court this Friday for a formal bail application,” said Shangase.
