In-service training opportunities for chemical engineers at Wilmar’s Richards Bay Plant

Wilmar has four internship opportunities at its new Richards Bay plant:

  • X4 CHEMICAL INTERN (P1 & P2 INSERVICE TRAINING)
  • 12 MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT
  • (REF: CIIT 01052022)

KEY RESPONSIBILITY:

To undergo training within processing plants in fulfilment of P1 and P2 requirements of the Diploma in Chemical Engineering.

Additional responsibilities during learnership include:

  1. To assist in all operations in plant production
  2. Quality control
  3. Housekeeping maintenance
  4. Maintenance of Safety standards

TASKS RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CONDUCTED:

  • Provide support on plant equipment under supervision
  • Assist with the commissioning of equipment
  • Monitor performance, functionality and output of equipment and advise superiors when actions need to be taken
  • Conduct equipment checks and assigned preventative maintenance timeously
  • Assist with other maintenance activities as and when required under supervision
  • In-process sample analysis and taking corrective action as per results
  • Raw material control and management
  • Complete and maintain working documentation and log sheets
  • Maintain data and records according to company procedures
  • Comply to company safety and quality procedures and instructions
  • Period assessments will be conducted to maintain to ensure understanding.

QUALIFYING ATTRIBUTES:

  • Qualifications: Successfully completed S4 National Diploma in Chemical
    Engineering.
  • Academic record, recent dated letter from the Educational Institution
    declaring readiness for work integrated learning (WILL) and a municipality/
    chief letter confirmation proof of address should be attached.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of chemical processes.
  • Skills: Literate (Reading comprehension to Work Instruction and numeric);
    Good communication skills.
  • Behavioural attributes: Tolerance for routine, attention to detail, methodical,
    proactive and ‘quick thinking’, physical fitness, committed to working shifts.
  • Experience: No previous working experience required.
