Mtubatuba mayor urges citizens to continue practising Covid-19 preventative measures

‘Covid-19 has come back stronger,’ says Mtubatuba Mayor

Mtubatuba Mayor Mxolisi Mthethwa on Friday encouraged residents to go back to practising Covid-19 preventative measures amid the fifth wave of the pandemic.

Mthethwa commented on this ahead of his IDP draft budget presentation to the community of eMfekaye, outside Mtubatuba.

‘Covid-19 has come back stronger,’ Mthethwa said, adding that it was concerning that in Thursday’s update, KZN was second to Gauteng in the majority of recorded cases.

The National Institution for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported on Thursday that Gauteng contributed 39% to the total cases, followed by KZN at 22%.

‘And that is just the people who have tested; what about others who have not?

‘That is why it is important for people to go back to washing their hands, using hand sanitiser, and wearing masks.

‘It is possible that the government or the president will in due course announce this, but we must start now,’ said Mthethwa.

He added that it was important that community leaders encourage their community members to practice Covid-19 preventative measures.
