Efforts to promote Covid-19 vaccination uptake

Vooma Vaccination Weekend runs from 8-10 April

The Department of Health launched their Vooma Vaccination Weekend ahead of the upcoming Easter holidays.
The campaign started on Friday, 8 April and runs to Sunday, 10 April countrywide, and is aimed at promoting vaccine uptake.

With the State of Disaster lifted, the Covid-19 vaccination is one of the most effective methods of protection against the virus.

The department said Vooma Vaccination Weekends aim to provide access to vulnerable people, including undocumented individuals or those who may have lost their identity documents.

In a statement, the department’s message was that no one would be left behind in accessing the vaccine.

‘We call on the non-vaccinated and partly vaccinated, including children aged 12 years and older, to use this opportunity. While we will roll out public sites across all provinces, we are also prioritising areas with vulnerable people as per Stats SA’s Covid Vulnerability Index.

‘We will be vaccinating all citizens in the country even if they do not have any form of identity document. All you have to do is to go to your nearest vaccination site and receive this life-saving treatment,’ said the statement
‘Our #BeReady campaign particularly targets young adults who remain the least vaccinated group in the country,’ the department said.

Vaccination sites will be situated at a range of platforms such sport events, to make the vaccine more accessible to the public.

‘Following discussions between the government and Premier Soccer League, there will be vaccination sites at soccer stadiums to enable non-vaccinated soccer-loving fans to get the vaccine.

‘However, fans are reminded to arrive early with their match tickets, proof of identity and vaccination certificate if vaccinated, otherwise they can vaccinate at the stadium.

‘Second and booster vaccine doses will also be available,’ the statement continued.
