King Cetshwayo District holds imbizo on water issues

These engagements follow the presentation of the district's R1.3-billion draft budget for the 2022/23 and 2024/25 financial years.

The King Cetshwayo District Municipality is hosting a series of imbizos at local municipalities to engage on various water-related challenges facing communities.

Two sessions, chaired by District Mayor Thami Ntuli, took place last week at the Nkandla and uMlalazi municipalities.

In the first imbizo in Nkandla, the district presented to councillors and Amakhosi water issues as well as the planned interventions per ward.

A similar session was held in uMlalazi and attended by councillors and Amakhosi within the municipality, with input of the various stakeholders set to form part of the district’s forward planning.

Two other imbizos were scheduled for this week in the Mthonjaneni and uMfolozi municipalities.

These engagements follow the presentation of the district’s R1.3-billion draft budget for the 2022/23 and 2024/25 financial years.

Delivering the budget last week at the municipal council chambers, Mayor Ntuli said major investment is being made towards infrastructure development, particularly to combat water problems in rural municipalities under the district.

‘In the past three months, we have introduced 25 contractors, spending a budget of more than R123-million across the Nkandla, uMfolozi, uMlalazi and Mthonjaneni municipalities,’ said Ntuli.

‘We believe we must embark on a mission to ensure the people of King Cetshwayo have access to clean water,’ he said.
