There is no particular ‘season’ for dolphins, but recent weeks have seen them make almost daily appearances in the Alkantstrand area.

Not only were the resident endangered humpback dolphin pods showing up to entertain spectators who walked to the viewing platform at the end of the pier, but there was an influx of bottlenose dolphins.
Though not uncommon to the area, the bottlenose do not normally venture as close to the shore as do the humpbacks, which prefer shallower, turbid water.
Over the past weekend, with plenty of bait fish around, the dolphins were splashing everywhere as they hunted for prey, with frequent vertical and horizontal jumps.
Many people who were down at the platform during the mornings last weekend had a good view of these amazing creatures, but of course they could be there at any time of the day.
