RBCT stakeholder engagement 2021

As part of Richards Bay Coal Terminal’s commitment of being a responsible corporate citizen, it is our commitment to conduct business in a manner that is compatible with the economic, social and environmental needs of the communities in which we operate.

RBCT’s corporate social investment strategy plays a constructive role in enhancing the quality of life in the communities within which our people live. Our aim is to promote the development of self-reliant communities and to facilitate sustainable community development programmes. RBCT is geared towards providing sustainable solutions to real needs identified in the communities. We believe that our social involvement should make a meaningful improvement to the lives of the people and communities that it is designed to benefit.

The total CSI spend for 2021 was R4.2 million. Various initiatives were conducted in 2021, including a food parcel drive, donation of essential supplies and the building of 3 new classrooms.

Amangwe Village received a donation of R350 000 from RBCT
Phindizwe High School from the Inkandla rural area was assisted with teaching aids to the value of R100 000 to recognise their exceptional matric results
Faith Hope and Love NPO received food parcels for the Iniwe community as part of the RBCT Food Relief Drive
Empangeni Boxing Club received gym equipment from RBCT as part of its Sport Development initiative
Three NPOs received support from RBCT in the form of essential supplies to the value of R100 000 each
Medical personal protection equipment to the value of R283 520 was donated to the Department of Health in the Empangeni District
Five NPOs received food parcels as part of RBCT’s Covid-19 relief drive
