City delivers successful first day of business expo

The expo will see large companies and business people showcasing opportunities available for local beneficiation

The uMhlathuze Municipality officially kicked off the first day of its inaugural business expo in Richards Bay on Wednesday.

The three-day engagement session held at ZCBF brings together industry heavyweights, local small businesses and various government departments.

Wednesday’s session was attended by Amakhosi, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Nomalungelo Gina alongside local government leaders, including City Mayor Xolani Ngwezi, Deputy Mayor Nkululeko Ngubane and councillors.

It featured panel discussions from Transnet, BrandSA, TIKZN, national and provincial treasury, who unpacked issues around localisation, investment and the need to grow small businesses.

‘The expo will see large companies and business people showcasing opportunities available for local beneficiation and how local entrepreneurs can access such opportunities.

‘It will span over three days and allow businesses to exhibit their products and services. There will also be business-to-business linkages to allow SMMEs to have one-on-one sessions with industry and government, which we hope will create long-term partnerships,’ said Mayor Ngwezi.

The expo will continue until Friday.
