NRB score late 1-0 win at home

But still the goals would not come until a late substitution saw Siyabonga Vilane take the field, his presence making an immediate impact

THEY will be extremely happy about the three points they bagged against Pretoria Callies at the uMhlathuze Stadium this afternoon, but Richards Bay FC will be bitterly disappointed about the way they played.

There was not a shot in anger from either side in the first half, with the NRB side playing uncharacteristically deep and handing over the midfield to the visitors.

The tactic of wanting to catch them on the break worked to a certain extent, with target man Somila Ntsundwana getting plenty of ball but little organised support as moves broke down with regularity.

There was literally not a single highlight in a boring first stanza, with Callies seemingly more up for a scrap than the Bay boys.

A half time scolding, I would guess, seemed to do the trick and there was far more fire from Simo Dladla’s boys in the second 45 minutes, although still not enough to set the stadium alight.

NRB began to find their groove and the normal precision passing game resulted, putting Callies under intense pressure as they tried to stem wave after wave of attack.

But still the goals would not come until a late substitution saw Siyabonga Vilane take the field, his presence making an immediate impact.

He rose to meet a sweet cross from the left by Tshepo Mabuya and headed home to save the day the Richards Bay.

A sub-par showing for sure, but any football manager will agree that three points from a poor performance is far better than no points from a good one.
