NRB win again to stay on top of the table

The Cane Cutters were ahead after a mere 10 minutes when Thabani Dube earned the visitors a penalty with a foul in the box and Simethemba Mngomezulu sent Malcom Jacobs the wrong way with the spot kick (0-1).

ALTHOUGH the score might hint at a close game, there was really just one team in it as Richards Bay downed KZN neighbours Uthongathi 2-1 at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Cane Cutters were ahead after a mere 10 minutes when Thabani Dube earned the visitors a penalty with a foul in the box and Simethemba Mngomezulu sent Malcom Jacobs the wrong way with the spot kick (0-1).

From then on Richards Bay took over, creating chance after chance but going into the break still with that deficit.
It looked like the equaliser would come soon after half time but former NRB captain Xolani Ngcobo in the visitors’ goal guessed right to foil Thabo Maphakisa from the penalty spot.

However, he had no chance when a second penalty was calmly stroked home by Khanyisa Mayo in the 68th minute as Simo Dladla’s boys pounded away at the Uthongathi goal.

The winner duly came in the 87th minute when Mayo latched onto a second ball from the umpteenth corner to head home.
