POLICE arrested two elderly suspects for possession of stolen vehicles in Jozini CBD last Thursday. The suspects, aged 66 and 63, reportedly told police they were hired to deliver the vehicles to Manguzi. Jozini CFP Chairperson, Joseph Ngubane, believes the incident is connected to a syndicate working with other criminals from various provinces. We have noted that these people are connected and they have a group of people in our area who work with them,’ he said. Jozini SAPS spokesperson, Captain Senzo Gumede, said both suspects were charged for possession of the stolen property. Gumede explained that one of the suspects was caught driving a white Toyota Hilux GD 62.8, while the second suspect was driving a grey Toyota Hilux GD 62.4, both double cabs ‘Our preliminary investigations reveal that one of these vehicles was reported stolen at Olifantsfontein SAPS in Gauteng. ‘We are conducting our investigation around the second vehicle. ‘Once our investigation has been completed, we will contact the relevant station to inform vehicle owners about the recovery and the arrests. ‘We are working hard to deal with cross- border crime. ‘Our vigilant members are all over and they stop all suspicious vehicles in our policing area,’ Gumede said. Both suspects appeared before Ubombo Magistrate’s Court and were remanded in police custody pending further investigation. They are expected to reappear on Friday for a formal bail application.
