Power restored to most of Richards Bay

Electricity to Brackenham and parts of Aquadene is expected to be restored later today

FOLLOWING yesterday’s (Tuesday) severe thunderstorm and heavy rainfall which caused power outages that affected the whole of Richards Bay, most of the city’s electricity has been restored.

Two faults were identified, one which affected Aquadene and Brackenham, the second which affected the rest of Richards Bay.

Power went out in stages during the late afternoon and was restored to all of Richards Bay except Aquadene and Brackenham, by 7.30pm, with parts of Aquadene coming back on a bit later.

Owing to the seriousness of the damage, electricity to Brackenham and those parts of Aquadene that are still in darkness will be restored later today, according to the City of uMhlathuze.

The Phoenix sub-station near the Richards Bay cemetery blew and caught fire, rendering Aquadene and Brackenham powerless.
