Water supply a priority for King Cetshwayo district development

A number of service delivery projects for the current financial year have been finalised and are ready to be handed over

ACCESS to water was a focal point on the agenda at last week’s 2021/2022 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) engagement session held in Richards Bay.

Business leaders and provincial government representatives discussed the planned infrastructure, social and economic development projects in the King Cetshwayo District.

This follows a public participation roadshow at the uMlalazi Municipality Council Chambers earlier this month, where the Amakhosi raised concerns about water supply challenges in response to the IDP presentation.

During last week’s presentation, Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi provided the district’s economic profile and outlined the progress report on water services infrastructure projects.

These include the supply, delivery and installation of water static tanks, refurbishment of eShowe water treatment works, the relocation of the Gingindlovu raw water system, and the Melmoth water treatment work refurbishment, among others.

Mkhulisi said a number of service delivery projects for the current financial year had been finalised and were ready to be handed over.

Tackling water supply issues, Mkhulisi said the district has procured 24 water tankers, with Richards Bay Minerals also donating a water tanker to the value of R1.5-million.

‘The district will do whatever it takes to ensure people have access to water,’ she said.
