Richards Bay market meander gains more traction

The next market will take place on 16 December, which will have a Christmas theme

ZULULANDERS braved the challenging weather conditions on Saturday to support local vendors part of The Market Meander – Zululand in various suburbs within Richards Bay.

This unique market was the second since the hard lockdown and saw 103 vendors selling a range of items at 24 host houses in the city.

This concept was started by Wendy and Demian van Loggerenberg, who have been involved as market vendors for four years.

‘Over the years of being part of market days, one meets people and establishes connections,’ said Wendy.

‘When Covid-19 struck, this hobby of ours was affected. ‘But a number of people rely on these markets as a sole source of income.

‘So my hubby and I were thinking about ways to create a platform while limiting numbers and mass gatherings.

‘I knew about the Midlands Meander and thought this could work in the Bay, and contacted all my connections to see who would be interested, and it grew from there,’ said Wendy.

The Facebook page – The Market Meander – Zululand – provides all the information needed for people to know when and where things are happening.

‘We provide application forms on the page where people can sign up as vendors or hosts and we allocate vendors from there.

‘We provide bunting and signage sponsored by Emprint and we market the products being sold on the day and give detailed directions to all host homes.’

The next market will take place on 16 December, which will have a Christmas theme.
