WATCH: Richards Bay’s resident hippo makes people’s Monday

The hippo was seen grazing the grass alongside the John Ross

COMMUTERS in Richards Bay were yesterday (Monday) evening treated to a wildlife spectacle as the town’s resident hippo made an appearance alongside the John Ross just outside Meerensee.

The hippo was caught on camera by Richards Bay resident Sunjen Pillay, grazing in the vicinity of the Medway Road intersection at about 5pm.

‘I had a close encounter with him before he went onto the John Ross while we were at the nursery. I was surprised at how huge he is,’ said Loreen Govender.

‘This is the silver lining… Beautiful, nature is amazing,’ said Yuthika Maharaj.

Comment of the day, which gained many laughs, went to Bhekie Manqele who said, ‘Wow, I need this guy. I heard on the radio that he can help me compare insurance policies.’
