Great variety of fish on the north coast menu

A number of species are being hooked in the region

WITH summer just around the bend and the weekly angling reports proving that sea life is buzzing, it’s a no-brainer to pack the old fishing bag and head out anywhere along the north coast shoreline with a rod in hand.

For those blessed with boats, the snoek have been giving anglers grey hairs, with the frenzy they moving at.

These species are populating at river mouths and areas of water that have good rip.

Word on the street is that fillet baits have been key to catching the bigger fish, with redeye sardine fillets also producing bites.

Ensure that traces and equipment are up to standard to avoid disappointment.

Great news is that tuna have also been making their rounds, and with the price of these fish skyrocketing at the shops, catching them fresh is the way to go.

To get into the game, use poppers or live bait.

Rock and surf anglers have been returning home with good hauls of stumpies and big shad.

The shad have been thick on the bite early in the mornings and late afternoons. So why not get a cast in before or after work.

These guys have been loving both sardine and mackerel bait.

Stumpnose has also been on the menu, along with other edibles that have been falling victim to chokka, sea lice, prawn and crackers.

As a heads-up, look for the working white water and place your baits along the edges.
